Tips For Maintaining Your Tablet

Tablets are incredibly convenient devices. Whether you’re playing games while watching TV on the couch, reading the news at the table at breakfast, or at a business lunch with clients, tablets are small and users can easily navigate the internet and various other applications.

If you frequently use your tablet, especially outside the home, it’s incredibly important that it is well maintained. Spills and screen cracking are two of the most common issues that can occur that can lead to significant damage and costly repairs.

Here Are a Few Tips on Tablet Maintenance From the Computer Repair Experts at Fix My Gadget

Get a Case

One of the most important things you can do to keep your tablet protected is to get a good case for it. This not only means using a cover that is placed onto the back with a flap that protects the front, but also a carrying case you can put the tablet in when you’re on the go. Using a case will ensure that as little dust as possible accumulates on the tablet and it will also protect the screen from cracking if it were to be dropped.

Be Mindful of Liquids

We’re in an age now where everyone should know that electronics and any type of liquid do not mix. Whatever you’re doing or wherever you are, if there is a liquid nearby, then you must take extra precautions to keep the tablet safe.

If a spill does occur, it’s essential that you act quickly. Pick up as much moisture as possible with a towel and turn the device off as quickly as possible. Then, place the device upside down on top of a towel in a cool, airy place. This will ensure that any remaining liquid falls out of the device.

Be Nice to the Battery

There are several ways to prolong the life of your battery.

  • Keep the Charging Port Clean: Be careful with where you take your tablet and how you carry it. Leaving the tablet in a dusty environment will clog the charging port and could prevent it from charging. Turn Off Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi can drain a lot of power, so if you’re not using it, then turn it off.
  • Turn the Screen Down: The screen also uses up a lot of power, so try dimming the screen and changing the settings so the device goes into sleep mode after a shorter period of time
  • Don’t Turn it Off: If you frequently turn off the device when you’re not using it, the power it takes to turn it back on can actually be more powerful than just leaving it in sleep mode.
  • Wait to Charge It: Let the battery run down to about 10% before charging it. There’s no need to charge the device when the battery is only at 40 percent.

Avoid Heat

Working outside or taking the tablet to the beach may sound great, but keep an eye on how hot the device gets. Overheating the device may not be so bad when it happens every once in a while, but it’s not good for the tablet when this happens regularly. Keep the device out of direct sunlight when possible, and also be careful to not keep it near any space heaters, the oven, or in a hot car.

Get a Good Stylus

Most tablets come with their own stylus, which means that a stylus should be used for only the device it came with. Even though one stylus may work on various devices, using the wrong stylus on the wrong device could end up scratching the screen. If the stylus stops working for any reason, you should also avoid using any other object in order to protect the screen.

Install the Updates

Sure, it can take a few minutes for an update to be installed on your tablet, but these system updates are there for a reason. Software updates can fix bugs, make the tablet run more efficiently, improve the hardware, fix touch responsiveness issues, brightness issues, and much more. If the tablet isn’t running smoothly for any reason, a good place to start is to check if there are any system upgrades available.
